Uganda Cultural Tours & Community Visits

The Batwa of the Virungas, and the cattle country of Karamoja.

Uganda has somewhere north of fifty ethnic groups, and the two routes here go to the ends of the country rather than around Kampala: the Batwa on the Mgahinga forest edge in the far southwest, and Karamoja and the Ik in the far northeast. Both are arranged directly with the communities that guide them, and both are accounts given first-hand rather than performances laid on; the Batwa Trail is the record of an eviction, and Karamoja is a working pastoral economy, not a set. Neither is a half-day add-on; the distances alone see to that.
