Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
The Only Place to See Rhinos in Uganda
Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild. After rhinos were wiped out in Uganda by the 1980s, the sanctuary was established in 2005 to reintroduce and breed southern white rhinos in a protected 70 sq km reserve. The population has grown since, and you track the rhinos on foot with a ranger rather than from a vehicle. Ziwa sits on the road between Kampala and Murchison Falls, which makes it an easy stopover, and it is a model for community-based wildlife conservation.
