Mount Elgon National Park

The World's Largest Volcanic Caldera

Mount Elgon is an extinct shield volcano straddling the Uganda-Kenya border, with one of the largest intact calderas in the world (40km wide). Its highest point, Wagagai, reaches 4,321m and offers a less-crowded, less-technical summit than the Rwenzoris. The lower slopes are wrapped in fertile farmland famous for Arabica coffee, and host the iconic Sipi Falls, a series of three dramatic waterfalls cascading down basalt cliffs. The park is a haven for hikers, birders, and culture seekers who want to engage with the Bagisu and Sabiny communities.
